Vastu for flats and high-rise apartments: what actually matters

You cannot move the entrance of a tower flat. Here is what you can change — and which Vastu points matter most when the layout is fixed.

Vastu for flats and high-rise apartments: what actually matters

Most Vastu advice was written for independent houses on open plots. Apartment living is different: the entrance, kitchen position and toilets are fixed by the builder, and breaking walls is rarely an option in a housing society.

The good news is that a flat is assessed as its own unit. The centre of the flat, its north-east, south-west and the main door are read from the flat's own floor plan, independent of the building's overall shape.

The points that matter most are usually: a clear and well-lit entrance, an uncluttered north-east, a stable south-west for the main bedroom, and a kitchen whose fire element is balanced with its surroundings. Floor height and lift position matter far less than many people fear.

When a zone is not ideal — a toilet in the north-east, for instance — the remedy is about balancing elements through colour, material, placement and use rather than relocating plumbing.

Astro Vastu adds one more layer: it matches each zone to the people living there. Two families in identical flats may receive different priorities, because their charts ask for different support.

“In a flat, work with placement and elements — the layout does not have to change for the energy to.”

  3. 03Use the south-west for the main bedroom where possible.
  4. 04Balance difficult zones with elements, not demolition.
